Torcetti, or Torchietti, as they were called in the 18th century, are typical biscuits with a peculiar, twisted shape after which they were named. Torcetti means “twist” in Italian, which is exactly how these biscuits get their shape. They were invented in the Valle di Lanzo, where bakers while waiting for the oven to be hot enough to bake bread, cooked the extra pieces of bread dough covered in sugar or honey.
Through the years the recipe has changed, it has been enriched with butter and it is now more delicious than ever. Thanks to a slow leavening process, these biscuits have a crisp texture and a unique fragrance. Their buttery flavor makes them perfect to be enjoyed on their own, or to dip in your morning tea.
Torcetti is a recognized Traditional Piedmontese Agrofood product.
