The vines grow in Piedmont, in Valle Roncati, a valley in the Novara hills at the foot of Monte Rosa. The acidic glacial soil is rich in clay, sand and hundreds of different minerals. Sizzano, is one of the most prestigious appellations in Piedmont. The name comes from the village of Sizzano, where the wine is made. There, the wine was already popular in the Middle Ages among the nobility and the high clergy, but it reached the height of its fame thanks to Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour.
It has been a DOC wine since 1969.
San Bartolomeo wine is made according to the traditional red wine-making process, in which the must (pulp) ferments with the grape skins and carefully selected yeasts. The wine ferments at a controlled temperature in stainless steel barrels and then ages for a long time in French oak barrels. Finally, the wine is bottled and stored in climate-controlled rooms.
The wine "San Bartolomeo" has a ruby colour with garnet hues. The bouquet is powerful, with scents of violets, red berries and notes of spices. The taste is saline and dry, with depth and balance of primary and secondary aromas. The finish is velvety, smooth and persistent.
It pairs exquisitely with red meat, game, braised meats and spicy cheeses. It is also excellent with mushrooms and truffles.
