The Albarossa 1491 is one of Castello di Uviglie’s signature wines. It is made with 100% Albarossa, a grape which calls Piedmont home since 1938. It is a cross between Nebbiolo of Dronero and Barbera, taking the welcoming friendliness of Barbera and the noble character of Nebbiolo.
Castello di Uviglie allows the grapes to go through Malolactic Fermentation in small wooden barrels. It then is aged in small barrels for 18-20 months and another 6 months in the bottle.
The final Albarossa 1491 wine is a ruby red, with pleasant spice and tobacco notes. An easy-drinking wine that can be enjoyed on its own for an evening glass, or paired perfectly with aged cheeses, red meats, and tomato-based pasta sauces.
The Albarossa gets its name from the producer. In the year 1491, one year before Columbus landed on the shores of the Bahamas, Castello di Uviglie was already producing incredible wines. The castle remains intact and continues to produce wines, and offer event space, all under the management of Simone Lupano.
