San Biagio's Langhe Nebbiolo "Ad Maiora" is produced from 100% Nebbiolo, grown in the area of La Morra, one of the 11 comunes specified for the production of Barolo. The vines here grow in ancient marine soils containing sand and clay, which allows them to take on a very aromatic character. This also gives them a softer edge when they make it to the bottle.
After being harvested by hand the grapes spend 25 days fermenting into wine, then 6 months in large French oak barrels, and another 6 years refinement in the bottle.
The end result is a brilliant garnet and ruby wine, with primary aromas of red wild berries such as raspberries and dark cherry. Then of course it is marked with the unique notes of Nebbiolo and the time in oak- wild herbs, and a touch of spice, tobacco, and licorice to close out the mouth.
It is a fresh wine, that despite its age retains a youthful welcoming character and a refreshing sip to be enjoyed on any occasion.
Pour a glass of Langhe Nebbiolo Ad Maiora at your next aperitivo, with a selection of aged cheese and fat-based salumi, or with the first course of rich tomato-based pasta. It also pairs great with grilled vegetables!
