In an area, that of lower Piedmont, recognised for its production of red wines, this white wine stands out, rich in history and with unmistakable scents.
Often referred to as 'the Barolo of Piedmontese white wines', Gavi is a historic wine that has made its mark on the tradition of great whites throughout Italy.
It is said that Princess Gavia, daughter of the French king Clodomiro, fled until she found refuge in the hills of Piedmont. It was the princess herself who gave her name to the village that welcomed her, while her beauty and "courteous" spirit inspired the name of the vine from which the delicious local white wine is made.
Gavi DOCG (since 1973) is produced entirely from Cortese grapes grown only in 11 municipalities of Monferrato.
Gavi has a more or less pale straw colour with greenish reflections, a delicate bouquet, with hints of fresh fruit and white flowers, with notes of citrus fruits and bitter almonds, which becomes richer in mineral aromas and complexity with ageing. The flavour is dry, full, pleasantly fresh and harmonious, of great elegance and finesse.
It is perfect with all traditional Piedmontese products but also goes well with fish or a risotto with herbs.
Enjoying a glass of this great wine means immersing yourself in the true tradition of our region... a must try!
