Literally "barley wine", it is considered by many as the beer equivalent of wine, from which it takes some characteristics such as color (dark, ebony and ruby especially), pronounced alcohol and, in particular, the method of preservation.
Of Anglo-Saxon origin, belonging to the wide family of high fermentation, because of its particular characteristics it is often included in a category apart. This kind of beer is fascinating for the elegance of its olfactory/gustatory bouquet, for the richness and complexity of its flavors and smells, intense, perfectly combining elements typical of beer and wine.
Often defined as "meditation beer", as it is an excellent alternative to after-dinner liquors, sipped in front of a fireplace in the cold winter days.
Compared to other types of beer, destined to be consumed young in order to better appreciate its qualities, Barley Wine prefers the aging and resting in cellars, even for long years, whose purpose is to favor the further enrichment of taste and aromas (especially if aged in wooden barrels).
Rest and aging are then witnessed by the very long expiry dates written in the label or, even, by their "almost" absence.
