Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato DOC “San Martèn”
Appellation Cortese Alto Monferrato DOC
Alcohol volume 12,5%
Serving Temperature 8°-10°C
A unique wine produced from 100% Cortese grapes. It was born and grew thanks to the skills of oenologist Roberto Orsi. A vineyard of the highest quality that represents the history of great Piedmontese white wines, together with Gavi (also produced from Cortese grapes).
Cortese is one of the most important white grape varieties in Piedmont. Elegant and light, it played the role of court berry during the Renaissance. Its fame grew and distinguishes it as a refined wine with an energetic character.
The spread of phylloxera (vine bacterium) at the beginning of the 1900s caused the oblivion of this cultivation but, in 1950, the journalist Mario Soldati was the driving force behind its rediscovery.
Its quality is excellent with scents of lime blossom, wet meadow and slate. The straw yellow colour is enhanced by golden hues. The palate is delicate and balanced with a savoury note.
Foodpairings: the pleasant acidity goes well with veal with tuna sauce, omelette, fish fillet with mayonnaise or pumpkin risotto, and it is also very friendly with many light dishes.
