This Colline Novaresi DOC Vespolina is made from 100% Vespolina. After the harvest, the wine is matured in steel barrels until the end of the winter. After bottling, it is aged for 3-4 months. It is great to enjoy within the first 4 years of release.
The name "Vespolina" owes its origin to the typical sweet taste of the grapes from its vineyards that are favoured by wasps (vespa in Italian). Regarding the origin of its cultivation, it was mentioned in documents since the 16th century, when the sutler of the house Sforza ordered it to a producer of the area of Ghemme. In fact, it is a native vine of Piedmont and, although over the years its cultivation has spread to other parts of Northern Italy, it finds the right freshness and depth to reach the right maturity in the soils of Novara.
The colour is ruby red with violet reflections, the bouquet has notes of dried rose at the beginning, and hints of fresh fruit and spices at the end. It is a medium-bodied dry red wine.
To complete an excellent experience with this Colline Novaresi DOC Vespolina, pair it with Fidighina d'la Duja DOP, other Piedmontese cured meats, light starters, main courses with white meat or fish.
