One of the classic biscuits of the Piedmontese tradition, the Torcetti are butter based cookies from the Valle di Lanzo, folded and twisted like a hug with a delicious sugary glaze.
They are considered the sweet version of Piedmontese grissini, because they have the same technique of preparation and cooking. In fact, legend has it that they were prepared with the scraps from the preparation of breadsticks to which butter and sugar were added, twisted on themselves, and baked in the oven to be given to children.
The first evidence of their recipe dates back to 1854 when Giovanni Vialardi, a court cook, mentioned them in his Treatise on Modern Cookery and Confectionery: from being a child's fancy, they soon became the favourite dessert of the kingdom. Today you don't need to be a king to indulge in a bite of Torcetti!
Torcetti are irresistible and perfect at any time of day. Accompany them with a cup of coffee to get the day off to a good start, as a tasty snack for a pleasant break or at the end of a meal with a good glass of sparkling wine.
The ingredients include Whole Wheat Flour with Faithful Processing (patented and natural method): the only flour with a reduced glycemic impact, thanks to its fibre content.
