Piedmont is famous in Italy and abroad for its long high-quality cheese production, thanks to its wide valleys and alpine pastures. Piedmontese Cheese is made with cow, sheep, and goat cheese, offering a large range of flavours to explore. Classic local cheeses are the Antigorio, a cow’s milk cheese with a tasty yet mild flavour, or the celebrated Bettelmatt, with a restricted production in only 7 alps in the Antigorio and Formazza valleys, or the Maccagno, born in the mountains in the Biella province. In the Southern part of the region, we find all the most famous Piedmontese cheese such as the Bra or the Castelmagno. Finally, let's not forget one of the best: Gorgonzola, which is made in the Novara area and in the surrounding hills.
